About Kathleen
I am an Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with a background in business, the arts, and over eight years of tutoring experience. I’ve always liked the mix of creative and analytical thinking, whether that’s solving a math problem, figuring out a better way to explain something, or finding a completely different angle that makes things finally click.
My background in the arts really shapes how I approach tutoring. I don’t think there’s just one “right” way to understand something, so I like to explore different explanations until we find the one that actually makes sense for you. I’m big on curiosity, flexibility, and creative problem solving, especially when things feel stuck or frustrating.
I’m also someone who values clear communication and keeping things organized, thanks to my experience in business administration. Overall, I try to make tutoring feel relaxed, supportive, and genuinely useful, like you’re working things out with someone who’s in your corner.

My tutoring approach is built around one thing: figuring out how *you* learn best, not forcing you into a one-size-fits-all method.
At the beginning, I like to get a sense of your current strengths, where things tend to break down, and how you naturally approach problems. From there, I build a flexible plan that focuses on both fixing immediate gaps and strengthening the underlying study skills that make everything else easier over time. The goal isn’t just to get through the next assignment, it’s to help you feel more independent and confident in the subject overall.
A typical session is pretty interactive. We usually start by going over specific questions or topics you’re working on, then break them down step by step so you actually understand *why* things work, not just what the answer is. I often introduce alternate explanations or strategies until something clicks, and we’ll apply it right away so it sticks.
Between sessions, the focus is always on building habits that make studying less overwhelming. Things like how to approach problems, how to check your work, and how to actually feel prepared instead of guessing.
My schedule is kept up to date through my external calendar here: (concealed information)
Please check there first to see availability, and if you need a time outside what’s listed, feel free to message me, I’ll do my best to make something work.

Kathleen helped my child gain confidence and understanding in high school chemistry and math
Kathleen helped me take on my math tests by showing me what I was having trouble with (even when I thought I already knew it well she still helped me find my weaknesses) I am really grateful for the study skills I learned with her and I feel way more confident now.
Really good at explaining things in a way I understand, and making it easier for me to process and find a step by step method of doing problems.
Kathleen is patient, and committed to making sure that I actually understand the lessons we are learning before moving forward. We have done lessons via webcam and its so convenient to just hop on and chat with her when I need help. She got to know what my learning style was and planned our lessons around that - thank-you!

Students wishing to cancel their lesson must give at least 24 hours notice otherwise the cost of the lesson will be charged. Lessons must be confirmed and paid at least 24 hours in advance otherwise it will be cancelled and the spot will be open for other students to book.
If lesson plans and materials are required then I will need to charge an extra fee for my time in order to prepare those materials as it is quite time consuming and not included in my hourly rate. This fee is determined by what is required. Students formally enrolled in classes looking for extra help will not require this - feel free to ask if you are not sure
