About Hannah
I am an English PhD candidate, with a Masters in English/Medieval and Renaissance Studies. I have extensive experience in providing academic assistance to assigned students individually and in groups. Since the first year of my undergraduate degree I have repeatedly sought out tutoring positions, in group situations and one-on-one, for ages ranging from primary school to Honours-level students. During my graduate studies I have increasingly found myself in a mentor-type position for undergraduates who are, for various reasons, struggling with the transition into academic life.

• Capable of teaching literary studies at any level; history and Italian up to third-year undergraduate level; and coaching academic/compositional/English-language skills at any level. Capable of rapidly picking up less familiar Humanities subjects to a degree that will allow me to coach students in their studies.
• Experienced at working across language barriers, and with students who have learning disabilities, social disadvantages, or who are on the autism spectrum.
• Accustomed to coaching students for whom English is not a first language, or who are for other reasons uncomfortable with its formal or academic uses.
• Intimately familiar with the history of the English language, allowing me to clarify many of its puzzling contradictions which often cause errors in spelling and usage in formal writing.
• Capable of targeting students’ weaknesses in subjects, as well as identifying and emphasising their strengths in order to engage their enthusiasm.
• Compassionate, patient, and infectiously passionate about languages and literature.
• Capable of providing a cultural, historical, and social context for material from most periods of Western history, and of using that to encourage engagement and enthusiasm in students.
