My passion for teaching English is undimmed after over forty years experience. I gained my Graduate Teaching Certificate in 1970 and have been involved in developing communication skills ever since, mainly with Secondary School pupils but more recently with adult foreign students. The secret of good English teaching is unlocking the powers of self expression by grappling with the structure and meaning of words. Getting students to feel and relive their experiences enables the power of language to be released.
I havd a Combined Honours Degree In English and History and have been teaching English and Drama to Secondary pupils for over forty years. The Drama skills I use in my lessons have been very effective. Gesture, intonation, body language are all useful ways enabling students to gain the confidence to develop their innate powers of self expression. I am a very patient teacher who derives immense satisfaction from watching and experiencing the unfolding powers of students becoming effective communicators.
I have a second class (division two) Combined Honours Degree in English and History.
I was trained as a drama teacher by my local authority in order to introduce Drama onto the curriculum.
I have been a Secondary School English teacher working in the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh since 1973.
