About the lesson

I have been tutoring since 1997 and have also taught in government schools and in a private school. I believe that with very few exceptions all children can do well in and enjoy maths. The many reasons they don't do well in a classroom setting range from nerves to believing they can't. Once they see for themselves that they can, their learning will take off and they will progress rapidly. My job consists largely of instilling confidence and awakening curiosity. I know kids are confident when they are no longer worried about making mistakes, they are willing to challenge themselves and me. When finding out the truth is more important than looking good. I base lessons on the needs of each individual student, and prefer to bring the knowledge out of a child rather than lecturing them. Let them discover things for themselves, with a bit of guidance. This lets them love what they are doing.

Eva helped my son in his GCSEs to go from grade 6 to 9. He is now doing his A-level, which he never thought would be possible.

Eva taught my daughter GCSE maths, and managed to get her from being a shy girl, who didn't trust her own abilities to being confident. She passed with an A.

Eva has been teaching both of my boys who attend secondary school year 7 and year 9 for a few months now and both have improved their gradings and are either in top grade or moving towards top grade in maths. She is well liked by my boys and is able to explain things clearly and thoroughly until they have understood and can move on.
