About James
My full name is James Grandison. I am 21 years old and am an extremely passionate musician and artist who is deeply connected with various current music scenes in Sydney and teaching institutions. My desire to teach stems from wanting to share my love for these extremely special instruments. The most special aspect of music that I think I can teach you is the magic of collaboration and playing alongside other people, and how to do it respectfully and sensibly and how to make the quality of the music the priority, which ends up making everyone a better musician! I always love to get my students composing too.

My lessons are focused on performative, real-life application to Bass Guitar and stringed instruments and connecting rhythmically and melodically to an instrument using your ears and your body, before diving into too much theory. This way things start fun and interesting, and we can expand from there, using music theory as a guide rather than a compass :).
For beginners, we'll typically start by learning a couple of songs that have simple bass lines and establish a grounded, relaxed technique. For intermediate to advanced players, I would figure out what level you are at and usually begin with a jam or playing along to some songs and prescribe exercises, songs and philosophies to work on at home. Plenty of room for all levels in my lessons!
