About Jharnae
Having spent 10+ years as a University of Chicago student I've fallen in love with small group learning, intense questioning, and the city of Chicago at large. This interdisciplinary education inspired me to complete a dissertation sitting at the intersection between biology and psychology - examining the underlying biological processes leading to the generation of complex behaviors such as meal timing and food preferences. Having recently completed this research I've been falling back in love with my hobbies which include concerts, lakefront walks, cooking, and volunteering at the municipal animal shelter.

I like to understand what has worked for students in the past, what hasn't worked, and get an idea of what their goals are. I also like to get an understanding of how material is taught in their courses so that I can offer a different approach. I dig into the details of "why" a process or equation works the way it does, which I believe helps the students learn to independently identify "what" material is important. I've tutored a range of science and mathematics coursework at the middle school, high school, college, and graduate level. I like to integrate a student's passions and interests into the learning environment because I believe it encodes the material better. For college admissions assistance, I focus on preparing students for their "reach" schools because I believe that also provides a meaningful foundation for stellar applications to their "non-reach" schools. Having worked in an Ivy+ admissions office I have insider knowledge of what sets students apart from other qualified applicants in this competitive college application environment.
