About Philip
I am a qualified teacher and have taught for more than fifteen years in secondary schools, adult education, and at university. I have a BA Honors in English, along with a Higher Diploma in Education and a Higher Diploma in Adult Education. I have two Master's degrees - one in Education and Social Theory, and one in Public and Development Management. When I left the formal education sector, I went on to work at the United Nations and later for a private consulting company, doing research, strategic planning, and training. I am now working as a freelance educator, trainer, copy editor and mentor, based in Pretoria, South Africa.

I am passionate about working with students to improve their English speaking, reading, and writing skills - both for school, tertiary education, and general usage. I work best with adolescents, young, and mature students. My teaching style is structured but always informal and supportive of students' specific needs. My philosophy is to make lessons fun, while always remembering that we are working towards the goals that students set for themselves. For students at the tertiary level, I assist them with a range of skills they need to succeed: study structure, language skills, critical thinking, research skills, writing skills, and the ability to structure persuasive arguments or theses.
