About Ryan
I am excited to provide inspiring and expert music lessons to students of all ages in the West Los Angeles and Santa Monica region. I have been teaching music for over 20 years in both a private one on one setting as well as in schools. My focus is to fold: 1. Help a student to foster a love of music and 2. To develop a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music and technique. I am sensitive to each student's needs while simultaneously challenging them out of their comfort zone. All in all, teaching is a joy for me and I aim to share my love and passion for music with those that I have the pleasure of teaching.
When I was in high school, there were some younger middle school students who I was able to coach. It clicked right away and I saw that I was able to communicate clearly and they made progress quickly.
I have been studying music for over 30 years. I have a degree in music education and a California teaching credential for music. Music and music teaching has been a lifelong passion and vocation.

I first like to find out what inspired them to begin music. What does the student like about music?
Next, I ask them what music they enjoy listening to the most. Sometimes they don't really know and that is ok. But if I can get a sense of what music they enjoy or listen to, that gives me a sense of where they are coming from musically speaking.
Especially for older students or those who have prior music training, I will ask what challenges they are having or what goals they would like to achieve.
The goal is that the student is in the driver's seat as much as possible, and I am a guide in that process.
I have worked with students as young as 4 and as old as 70. Any age is a great age to learn music!!!
More important than price or even if the person has a great reputation, make sure the teacher is a good fit for YOU. There is no one size fits all. Look for someone who customizes the lessons to their students and not just show up. A good teacher should both encourage and challenge their student. Additionally, a focus on fundamentals and technique is key. Bad happens can form but a good teacher can prevent that if they are doing a good job. Shop around. It is an important investment.
I have an amazing family so I would have to say the birth of my three daughters.

Details
I work on a sliding scale and will work with almost any budget. Being that I travel to a students residence, I have to consider that as well.
Baseline pricing is as follows:
$35/30 minutes
$50/45 minutes
$60/60 minutes
Book 4 or more lessons of any length at a time and I will reduce the per lesson cost by $5/lesson ($20 savings).
