About Taylor

I'm currently a college student at Mississippi State University so I'm still learning, studying, and taking exams just like you! When it comes to academics, I know what it's like to feel confused, anxious, and even "lost" sometimes. That's why I'm ready to do everything in my power to help you conquer your fears and succeed in the course(s) you need help with!

I've served MSU as a Biology Supplemental Instruction Leader for 2 years now. Throughout that time, I planned and executed biweekly sessions designed to help students review what they learned in class. I know how to use simple and straightforward language to convey complex concepts and how to develop detailed examples, tutorial exercises, and comprehensive exam study guides to increase student retention of subject material.

One of my greatest passions is helping people learn that they can do what they believe to be impossible! After years of tutoring, I've discovered my favorite, truly my favorite, thing in the world is watching people have their "lightbulb" moment. It happens unexpectedly, usually after a lot of hard work and struggle, but it happens. And in that moment, they finally understand. The concept just clicks! That's the beautiful experience I want all my students to have. I just get to help guide them to it and through it!

I also served my university as a paid Supplemental Instruction Leader for Biology I. I planned and held two sessions every week to teach and review the information from lecture. I also met weekly with the professor to monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback regarding exams, quizzes, labs, etc.

As an SI Leader, I received 20 hours of professional development training each year. I attended various workshops designed to broaden our scope as tutors. I learned how to create my own educational content, communicate effectively and professionally with students, and how to cater to different styles of learning.

I'm well acquainted with both the instructor and student aspects of the education system and I'm prepared to use my knowledge and experience to help students better understand the subject material, complete their assignments, and prepare for exams.

I always want to learn more about the student's background. I believe that learning and growing academically is a holistic experience and there are many aspects of a student's life that could be affecting his/her performance in the classroom.

After that, I like to give a short- but comprehensive- learning styles assessment that measures how the student best absorbs new information. The results then allow me to tailor my teaching techniques, activities, and advice to each student's individual needs.

That's when the fun begins!

When I was in high school (2012-2016) I tutored my peers in subjects ranging from AP Biology to AP Art History.

I also volunteered at the local elementary school every week to help tutor K-5th grade students in English, Reading, and Science.

Look for substance! Find someone who's passionate about the subject material and wants to spread their knowledge and understanding with others! Search for a teacher who's patient, kind, and driven. Don't settle for someone who doesn't care if you succeed or fail- find someone real, someone good, and someone worth hiring!
