About Alice
I hold a B.F.A. in drama from N.Y.U. I tutor many subjects ranging from Elementary Math to College Level English. My goal is to meet your child's specific needs. I work with each student's strengths and weaknesses to offer them the best possible academic outcomes. I believe strongly in engaging each child with the subject material. It is my personal philosophy that every child is capable of improving in any subject through motivation and through a series of small successes. It is my mission to engage with every one of my students so that they are able to discover an understanding of the material. I also am of the opinion that learning should be as fun as possible while still providing maximum understanding and retention.
One of the aspects of my personality that makes me a successful tutor is my own personal love of learning. People learn best, I believe, when their teacher is passionate about the subject. I also always make sure to have a high level of understanding of all the subjects I tutor. This way, if the student has questions, I am always able to answer. I also believe in having at least six different ways of explaining a subject. This allows me to best be able to communicate with where the student is. It allows me to truly relate the material to the student and their own experience instead of forcing the student to see from my point of view.
I am always studying and learning myself so that I am never far removed from the students' experience and the pressures they are under. I individualize all my lessons and tailor my tutoring to each specific student and their needs.
I have worked with students for the last 5 years to improve their History, English, and Public Speaking knowledge and understanding.
