From 4 year olds to 55 year olds, I've worked with pre-schoolers, ADHD children and teens, honors students taking advanced high school and entry college level math classes, and returning scholars who were returning to school later in life to advance their careers or earn their degrees.
Find a tutorer that you vibe well with. I sometimes use silly methods to get a concept that needs memorizing to stick or to help my students concentrate, such as funny voices. For younger children who need homework help, or help concentrating, then I'll put them on a timer or race them and the game helps them focus. Not everyone enjoys that sort of silliness, so find someone who meets your needs and who you can understand.
