About Marie

As a National Board Certified Teacher with 16 years of experience, I'm passionate about making a difference in math education. I analyze student thinking to find gaps in students' knowledge. When I'm able to fill in the missing pieces, I get excited to see the thrill and relief students get when it finally makes sense.

16 years experience teaching 8th and 9th grades, math 1, math 2 in North Carolina.

NBCT early adolescents mathematics

M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction

B.S.ed. mathematics major, middle school minor.

About the lesson

I like to speak casually with the student about their likes and dislikes including classes in school. This helps me to understand what type of learner they are as well as build a relationship with the student. Then, I ask the student what frustrates him/her most about math and we work some problems to locate any misconceptions or gaps the student has developed.

My daughter who is in 9th grade was failing math class and struggled. Marie took her time to allow her to learn at her pace. She now has an “A” in math! Marie is seriously a great tutor!
