About Kathryn
I love ensuring that my students have a strong foundation so that they are prepared for their next level of education. I have my Bachelor's (Harvard) and Master's (RPI) in Computer Science and previously taught the SAT for Kaplan (having scored in or above the 90th percentile in both the Quantitative and Verbal sections) both in group and one-on-one settings.

I love watching my students light up when they finally understand something they've been struggling with!
I started teaching as a volunteer adult literacy tutor. Students started with learning the alphabet and progressed to multi-syllabic words. When I relocated and was unable to continue that opportunity, I signed on with Kaplan.
Education: I have my Bachelor's in Computer Science from Harvard University and my Master's in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Professional Experience: I have worked as an SAT instructor for Kaplan, which requires scoring in the 90th percentile or higher in both the Quantitative and Verbal reasoning sections. I have also volunteered as a literacy tutor for ESL adults and adults with dyslexia in downtown Hartford.

My first session is a diagnostic to see what knowledge the student already has, after which I develop a curriculum to fit the student's timeline. The first session is also a great opportunity to figure out how the student best learns and retains information, so that I can tailor my methods to them.
I have worked with middle and high school students and adults.
Never be afraid to say "I don't know". It is so much easier to learn (and to teach!) with a solid foundation.
