About Paul
I've always enjoyed helping schoolmates learn if I had ways to help them, and have consistently been told I'm a great help. Upon starting out as a tutor for an accelerated physics class I found it really ignited my passion for teaching.
My greatest aspiration is to make my job unnecessary for every student I teach. I want to help them learn how to think about each subject and combat image and esteem challenges in a way that is lasting and memorable.
Similar to my own learning path, the greatest joy fore as a tutor is when a topic "clicks" for a student. The moment when learning turns to understanding and the whole topic can be viewed in new and profound ways.
I'd been complimented on how helpful I'd been as a casual tutor, so I tried it out in college and it's been a passion ever since.
My learning didn't end at the bachelor's level, though that's where I exited college. Though I have little other than my tutoring experience that directly relates to this work, my various learnings and experiences have an untold effect on my capacity to teach and to learn.

The first and most important thing to do is observe how a student works to start understanding their learning style. Each student has their own way to learn, and my efforts in adapting to it and providing my best efforts to support their individual learning style is a large part of the whole tutoring process, but especially challenging and important at the very beginning.
I've worked with students in math, computer science, and physics. Some have merely needed another body in the room to study alongside, while others have had more challenges. One student found her self esteem was her biggest obstacle in her physics course, and I was incredibly happy with her when she managed to ace a class she was utterly convinced she was doing poorly in. Another student needed to find a completely different way for him to think about programming than what the teacher presented.
The adage "give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day..." is my best guidance. Look for a tutor who can help you with the parts of the class you're struggling with so that you can approach future classes with confidence and effective strategies.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
My greatest failure was that I didn't go to teachers' office hours enough. Giving yourself some time to think about what you want to ask is important, but don't let a lack of concrete questions dissuade you from speaking with them. Almost every teacher is there because they want to teach, and if you're happy to learn they'll be happy to teach you.

I've had several students and charged various rates, from $80 for a 4 hour session to $50 for a 45 minute session. My pricing is flexible, and I like to charge less per hour if students have more need for time.
