About Dave
I'm a retired mechanical engineer with a passion for teaching math and science. I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and a MS in Mechanical Engineering and Control Systems from Caltech. I've worked as an engineer at many companies, including Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Applied Materials, and KLA-Tencor. I can teach any math subject through high school, and science subjects including high school physics and statics.
I currently tutor a 9th grade student in pre-algebra, and a 10th grade student in algebra and pre-calculus.
I love working with anyone interested in learning more about math. There's a real art to math, and I love solving the puzzles that math presents. It is really fun, once you understand that math is just a new language to learn. I try to get my students to understand the math at a very deep level so that they really understand the problems and what they are asking.
I started tutoring after my undergrad days, but once I started working I didn't have the time. Now that I'm retired from engineering, I have more time do what I really love and help people learn math and science, which is so important to know.
I hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering (+ Material Science) from UC Berkeley (1991) and a MS in Mechanical Engineering (+ Control Systems) from Caltech (2003). I've worked as an engineer at several companies (Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Applied Materials, KLA-Tencor, RxSight), so can bring real-world experience to my tutoring sessions as well.

I try to get to know my student first to see where they're coming from - what their interests are, what they are having problems with, etc. Once we form a little connection, it is easier to dive in to the problems and figure out where I can help. I try to be very supportive and am very patient - everyone sees things in a different way, and it is my job to figure out where the student is coming from.
I've worked with students age 10-14 so far, but can work with people of any age.
It really comes down to the connection you have with the tutor. You should just try them out and if you're not feeling comfortable with them, just try another tutor.
I went mountain biking with my brothers in Moab, Utah which was amazing - we got to try out really nice mountain bikes and try out the trails near Moab. It was an amazing experience.
