About Vashon
We are Branson Karate and teach the style of Seiyo-No Shorin-Ryu Karate. Shorin Ryu is a traditional style of defensive martial arts. Shorin Ryu focuses on the whole person, mentally, physically, morally and spiritually. Briefly speaking Shorin Ryu Karate uses the “jitsu,” physical techniques derived from the combative arts of the Chinese, Okinawan, Korean and Japanese, to “Maximize students strengths and minimize weaknesses,” through strong powerful and circular techniques, (kicks, strikes, blocks, throws and weapons).
An equal application of hand and foot combinations makes this a true martial art. In Shorin Ryu Karate there is an adherence to tradition. Training Hall Etiquette and philosophical principles underlying karate are taught and encourage application in everyday living by the karate student. Principles such as, Self Discipline, Respect, Humility and Spiritual Strength are taught. We offer classes for students age 3 to 83!
Sensei Vashon Borich-Leach started karate at age 9 and found it to be her passion. She has been training and teaching ever since she earned her first black belt in 2003.
Hanshi Ronald Leach always wanted to learn karate and in his 30s he began training. Now in his 70s, he is considered a “”teacer’s teacher” and is a true master of martial arts.
We are a husband and wife team that have over 65 years combined experience in teaching adults and children the art of karate. We are seasoned master instructors who continue to receive additional training throughout the year. We have an excellent reputation and often teach other black belts who seek us out to learn from us.

New students are invited to take up to two classes free of charge to ensure our karate school is a good fit for them.
Always watch a class before you sign up. Get a good feel for the class as if you choose that dojo you will likely be there for several years or more! Watch how the instructors teach. Ask questions. Never sign a contract. Instead, take a month or three month trial to ensure the dojo, instructors and students are a good fit for you. Watch out for any dojo that have lots of black belts that are children. A reputable school will have no children that are black belts, only adults or older teens. It should take 4 years or more to achieve black belt. Watch the level of respect that the students show towards the instructors and each other.
