Teaching Method & Techniques
1. Conceptual understanding over memorization: I use Singapore Math's concrete-pictorial-abstract approach to build deep understanding. For example, I use fraction bars, number lines, and area models to make abstract concepts visual.
2. Data-driven instruction: I start with a quick diagnostic to identify gaps, then tailor lessons to each student’s needs.
Interactive and student-led: I ask guiding questions, use Desmos/GeoGebra for exploration, and encourage students to explain their thinking.
3. Real-world connections: I connect math to sports, gaming, finance, or whatever interests the student to boost engagement.
My Typical Lesson Plan (60-min online session)
Warm-up (5 min): Quick review or “do now” problem to get them thinking.
Concept introduction (15 min): Use visuals and examples to introduce a new topic (e.g., ratio & proportion).
Guided practice (20 min): Work 2-3 problems together. I ask “How did you solve it?” to check understanding.
Independent practice (15 min): Student solves problems while I observe and give hints** if needed.
Wrap-up (5 min): Recap, assign practice, and check in for next session.
