About Michelyn
My name is Michelyn, and I am a final-year Bachelor of Education student, specializing in English and Afrikaans. Teaching is not just a career path for me it is a passion and a calling. I chose this profession because I believe language is power: it opens doors, builds confidence, and allows learners to express themselves fully. I teach because I want to be the kind of educator who makes a difference, someone who inspires learners to believe in themselves, overcome challenges, and discover joy in their studies. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a student’s face light up when they finally grasp a difficult concept or feel proud of their own progress. My goal is to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and empowering, so that learners of all ages not only improve their English but also grow in confidence and independence.

My approach to private tutoring is learner-centred, interactive, and confidence-building. I believe every learner has unique strengths, so I adapt my methodology to meet individual needs whether that means simplifying grammar through step-by-step practice, unpacking literature creatively, or using real-life examples to make English relevant and enjoyable. What makes me unique as a teacher is my ability to combine academic rigour with encouragement, ensuring that learners feel both challenged and supported.
I am proficient in English and Afrikaans, and can teach comfortably in both languages. My lessons are aimed at learners of all ages and levels — from young children developing foundational literacy skills, to high-school learners preparing for exams, and even adults wanting to improve their academic, professional, or conversational English.
In a typical lesson, students can expect a mix of clear explanations, guided practice, and interactive activities. Lessons usually start with a short recap, followed by targeted work on specific goals such as comprehension, essay writing, grammar, or exam preparation, and end with feedback and strategies for improvement.
