About Meher

I'm a recent King's College London graduate with a First-Class degree in Politics.

I'm a pretty relaxed and sociable person, and I genuinely enjoy helping people out. Throughout uni, I somehow spent more time helping mates with their coursework than doing my own, knowing full well I probably wouldn't start mine until two days before the deadline (thankfully, my essay-writing system saved my degree haha).

I know how stressful uni can get, so I don't want our sessions to feel like another lecture. I'm happy to have a laugh, answer any questions and go over things as many times as needed. I'd much rather you felt comfortable telling me you don't understand something than pretending you do.

Really, I'm just an unc trying to help out while looking for a grad job myself :)

How my lessons work

I offer personalised help with your university coursework.

I graduated from King's College London with a First-Class Honours degree in Politics, achieving First-Class marks in my final 13 consecutive pieces of coursework. Over my time at university, I developed a systematic approach to essay writing that consistently worked for me, and it's this approach that I want to teach other students.

I believe that achieving a First isn't simply about how much you know or how naturally good you are at writing. A huge part of it comes down to how you approach the coursework itself, from the moment you're given the question to the final changes you make before submitting.

Before our first session, I'll ask you to send me:

---Your essay question or coursework title.

---A previous piece of relevant coursework, preferably with feedback from your marker.

---The marking criteria for your module.

---Any additional guidance, reading lists, module documents or instructions your lecturer has provided.

---Lecture transcript (if the question is based on a specific week of teaching)

I'll go through these beforehand and prepare a session explaining exactly how I'd approach your coursework, taking into account what your particular module and lecturer are looking for.

What I'll teach you?

I'll take you through the entire process I use when writing an essay:

1)Understanding the question: How to break down an essay question, work out what's actually being asked and identify what you need to consider before doing any research.

2)Finding research: How to decide what you need to research, where to look, how to put together a reading list and how to avoid wasting time on sources that aren't particularly useful.

3)Going through research: How to read academic papers and books efficiently, pick out relevant arguments and evidence, take notes and organise everything so you can actually use it when writing.

4)Formulating your thesis: How to use your research to develop your own answer to the question, rather than simply repeating what other academics have said.

5)Planning your essay: How to decide which arguments to include, what order to present them in and how to make sure each section contributes to answering the question.

6) Writing your introduction: What needs to go into an introduction, how to introduce your argument and how to set up the rest of your essay.

7) Writing your main body: How to build paragraphs, use evidence, engage critically with academic literature and make sure you're analysing rather than just describing.

8) Writing your conclusion: How to bring everything together and make sure your conclusion lands you those extra marks, rather than repeating what you've already written.

9) Getting the most marks possible: How to adjust your approach depending on the marking criteria, the type of assessment and any particular expectations your lecturer has set out. Something that works well in one module won't necessarily work as well in another, so understanding what your marker wants is especially important.

10) Reviewing your essay: How to go back through your work, recognise what's missing or could be better and make changes that will have the greatest impact on your final mark.

What makes my tutoring different?

The main thing is that I'm not just going to tell you to be more critical, use more evidence or improve your structure. Those were things I was often told at university, but what I found much more useful was understanding exactly how to do them.

That's what I want to help with. I'll explain how I personally approached each stage of writing an essay, why I did things that way and how you can use the same methods in your own work.

I'll also look through your previous coursework and feedback to see where you've been losing marks. We can then work out what you need to change and how to go about it.

I've already helped several friends with their coursework using this approach and have seen improvements in their results, which is part of what encouraged me to start tutoring.

Follow-up sessions

Once you've started writing your coursework, I'm more than happy to arrange another session to go through your draft together.

I'll explain where I think your essay is working well, where it's falling short and what you could do differently. We'll also look at how closely you're meeting the marking criteria and whether there are opportunities to strengthen your argument or make better use of your research.

The idea isn't for me to write your essay for you, but to help you understand how to improve it yourself.

Who are my lessons for?

I specialise in Politics, International Relations, Political Theory and British Politics at undergraduate level. However, the essay-writing approach I teach can also be applied to most humanities and social science degrees.

Whether you're currently getting 2:2s, consistently achieving 2:1s or already getting Firsts but want to push your marks higher, I'm happy to help.

What I ultimately want is for you to come away with more than just a better mark on one assignment. I want you to understand the whole process well enough that you can approach your next essay on your own, knowing what to do at each stage and why.
