Hi! I am John, an experienced and passionate history tutor. With a commitment to personalised learning and an engaging teaching approach, I strive to create an inclusive and enriching environment where students can develop a deep understanding of history. Whether you're a high school student discovering ancient civilisations or a college student studying world events, I am here to help you develop your skills, prepare for exams, and enjoy the subject to the extreme.
My tutoring approach is predicated on creating an interactive and student-centred learning experience. I believe that history should be engaging, relevant, and thought-provoking. To achieve this, I employ a range of techniques and methodologies tailored to each student's needs and learning style.
I utilise a blend of multimedia resources, including visual aids, documentaries, primary sources, and interactive online platforms, to provide a comprehensive and immersive learning experience. By incorporating different learning modalities, I ensure that students can grasp historical concepts from various angles and engage their visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic senses.
I encourage active participation and critical thinking through class discussions, debates, and thought-provoking questions. I aim to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment where students feel comfortable sharing their perspectives, engaging with diverse viewpoints, and analysing historical events critically.
Each lesson typically lasts 45-60 minutes. I believe in striking a balance between covering essential content and allowing time for in-depth discussions and student engagement. This duration ensures that we can delve into historical topics adequately, address questions, and provide meaningful insights while maintaining a manageable pace for effective learning.
I have worked with students of varying levels and backgrounds. I hold a BA in general humanities, specialising in history and philosophy. These disciplines developed my critical reasoning and analytical skills, as well as being particularly effective at fostering intellectual independence and high-level communication. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Modern History, where my research is concerned with the role of gender in early-twentieth century stage performances. My academic training provides a solid foundation for tutoring, enabling me to deliver accurate and well-rounded historical knowledge, as well as the development of primary analytical skills.
Additionally, my tutoring experience extends across different age groups, from middle school to university level. I have worked with students preparing for exams, such as GCSEs and A-Levels, as well as those seeking to enhance their understanding of specific historical periods or themes. Recently, I have been worked as a tutor at a top-20 university, running tutorials, developing skills, and marking undergraduate coursework.
My lessons cater to students of all levels, ranging from high school to univeristy and beyond. Whether you are just starting your exploration of history or seeking to deepen your knowledge in a specific area, my tutoring is designed to accommodate your unique needs and goals. I adjust my teaching methodologies and resources to suit the age, academic level, and learning style of each student, ensuring a personalised and effective learning experience.
