About Kailen
Originally from Indianapolis, IN, I completed my PharmD at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. During my time at Purdue, I served as a mentor for students. I was granted the opportunity to be a mentor to students from a myriad of majors which allowed me to gain the experience of working with many different personalities and learning styles. My mentoring experiences led to my passion for teaching. I have been taking advantage of every opportunity I have been given to feed my teaching passion ever since! With my passion for mentoring and teaching, I pursued a PGY-1 residency in New Albany, IN where I completed a robust teaching and learning curriculum under the leadership of gifted and experienced mentors. To continue my development as a pristine educator, I have had the great pleasure of participating in the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate (IPTeC) Program with a plethora of diverse teaching experiences.

Teaching methods should vary from audience to audience and setting to setting. My focus is to impart knowledge and facts to my students and inspire them to become self-educators. I want students to develop the skills and desire to always seek education and become active rather than passive learners. It is my responsibility as an educator to hold students accountable for their own learning while at the same time providing and empowering them with the tools needed for success. I hope that through my excitement and enthusiasm for teaching, I can encourage future professionals to become critical thinkers and innovators. I want my students to be engaged while learning, and this will be made possible using examples and first-hand experiences. To adequately test comprehension as well as my learners’ confidence in the material we discuss, self-assessments will be utilized with the intent of learners having the opportunity to reflect on their strengths, areas for improvement, and provide me feedback on how to improve my teaching styles and methods. The feedback I receive from my learners will serve to ensure I am tailoring my teaching methods to each individual’s learning style and challenging them appropriately.
