About J Doug

I started playing bass when I was 11 years old, was in several rock bands through junior high and high school, played bass in the University of Arizona jazz band, toured Japan with the UNLV jazz band, have done extensive studio recording with various Christian rock bands, and played bass for years at my church. I picked up rhythm acoustic guitar in my early 20s and led worship at my church for years on acoustic guitar. I have a good solid understanding of music theory, how to play by ear, how to read, etc. I’m the perfect teacher for somebody who’s picking up bass or acoustic guitar for the first time, and wants to learn solid, foundational technique, theory and ear training.

About the lesson

I will evaluate your objectives and goals (learning music theory, reading music, playing by ear, recreational playing, serious playing, etc.), other musical experience and knowledge you have, favorite styles of music, and tailor your lessons accordingly. I will provide all materials necessary to meet your goals.

Doug is very trustworthy. One of the most integrous and kind community members we could know. He has taught our son bass and guitar. Because Doug is a trained musician, your child will not only learn to have fun and play, but they will also receive the musical knowledge and theory to excel long term.
