About ABIGAIL
As Head of Music in an outstanding 6th Form College for the past 20 years, I have a wealth of experience facilitating students to achieve excellent results in A level and GCSE Music. Many of my students with the highest aspirations achieve A and A* grades, and go on to study at the world's most prestigious universities and conservatoires. I have experience with a wide range of learning needs and learning styles, and I meet the students where they are in their learning journey. As an A Level Composition Examiner, I have an insight into how best to meet the composition briefs, and I encourage individuality where the syllabus allows - particularly in the free composition element. I have a huge range of resources for the appraising examination such as past papers, mark schemes and my own scores and analyses.

When teaching composing for A level and GCSE Music, I use practical steps that build theoretical understanding and alongside this, encourage creative flair. As a Composition Examiner and teacher of A Level Music for the past 20 years, I share a wealth of resources and understanding of what the examiners are looking for. I have techniques and resources that help students to build a strong harmonic vocabulary, a good understanding of melodic construction and an awareness of textural possibilities. Lessons are typically 60 or 90 minutes long and are usually online via Zoom.
