About Eve
Over the past 20 years of tutoring, I have helped hundreds of students of all ages and abilities to improve in maths and statistics. I am thoroughly familiar with all exam systems offered in NZ high schools (NCEA, Scholarship, IB, Cambridge). I can also tutor most university-level maths and statistics topics.
I often work with students pursuing math competitions, ranging from Year 7 and 8 competitions such as Otago Problem Solving, all the way through to Math Olympiad. As a high school student, I represented New Zealand twice at the International Maths Olympiad (IMO) and now coach students aiming to do the same. Several of my students have won medals in the NZMO and been selected to attend the NZ olympiad camp, with one long-term student recently making the NZIMO team and winning a Silver medal at the IMO.
I also help with SAT and GRE prep for students applying to US universities, and can provide general guidance on both undergraduate and graduate admissions processes (having successfully gone through both admission processes). As a high school student, I was admitted to Princeton (early decision) and received full financial aid. I subsequently won full PhD scholarships to study statistics at various universities, including Cambridge, Columbia, Duke, and Brown. When applying, I took the SAT (for undergraduate admissions) and GRE (for graduate admissions), gaining perfect or near-perfect scores on all sections.
My academic qualifications include a BSc majoring in maths and psychology, an MSc in Statistics, and an LLB.

I find it is best to adjust my tutoring style to suit the individual student I am working with.
In general, I am a patient, friendly, and kind maths tutor who has a genuine love for both studying and teaching maths/statistics. I try to pass on this passion to my students, or at least, help them not to dislike maths.
For my younger students, we tend to focus on "fun" maths questions, such as logic puzzles.
For my students who find maths difficult, I focus on explaining mathematical concepts in an easy-to-understand way. This is supplemented by regular practice of math exercises until a student can confidently apply a new method. For example, factoring a quadratic equation.
For other students, their main challenge can simply be a lack of confidence. In such cases, I focus on building up a student's confidence in their abilities and reassuring them that they have the knowledge and ability needed to solve a particular problem and ace their exams.
For my top students working on maths olympiad or Cambridge A levels / further maths / NCEA scholarship, we tend to focus on strategies for approaching novel problems and proof-writing.

Eve has a fantastic teaching style, breaking down even the most difficult topics into simple, understandable steps. I highly recommend Eve to anyone who wants to improve their math skills!
Eve is awesome—I'm an adult who wanted to refresh much of the math I took in high school but in many cases didn't feel confident in when I was younger, which has impacted some of my work. It has been such a pleasure learning from Eve and regaining much of my confidence and learning to enjoy math again. Eve is very, very well qualified and has a really deep teaching expertise. I can't recommend Eve enough!
