About Claire
I have worked with young people for many years in a variety of roles – as a researcher, youth worker, counsellor, and for the past 8 years as a secondary school teacher. Over this time, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students and learning needs, which has given me a deep understanding of how every learner is unique.
I genuinely love to teach and take pride in forming positive, supportive relationships with my students. I thrive on being able to adapt lessons to the individual, ensuring that the content is pitched at the right level so that learning is meaningful, achievable, and enjoyable.
I have a special interest in exam skills, helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for, structure answers effectively, and gain marks consistently. I also bring the skills I’m developing as a therapeutic counsellor into my teaching, which helps me recognise and address blocks to learning, such as low confidence, anxiety, or fear of failure.
For me, teaching is not just about sharing knowledge – it’s about helping students gain confidence, overcome obstacles, and see their own potential. Whether a student is aiming for top grades, needs to catch up, or requires extra support due to SEND, I aim to make learning clear, engaging, and empowering.

I am an Ofsted Outstanding teacher, GCSE examiner, and hold a Master's Degree in Development Studies (University of Manchester), offering step-by-step tutoring in GCSE Geography, History & Religious Studies.
I have a special interest in exam skills, helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for, structure their answers, and gain marks efficiently. I work with all learners, from high-achieving students aiming for top grades to those with SEND or who feel anxious or disengaged.
I am currently nearing the end of my training as a therapeutic counsellor, and I bring these skills into my teaching. I recognise and address blocks to learning, such as low confidence, anxiety, or fear of failure, and tailor lessons to each student’s individual needs.
Lessons are usually one hour, but can be tailored to the student, with practice set between sessions to consolidate understanding and reinforce exam skills.
I focus on:

Addressing individual learning needs and obstacles
Rapid grade improvement where needed
First lesson is free to assess needs, identify strengths, and create a personalised plan.
