I would be interested in tutoring GCSE level students and A Level students in History or Politics. In particular, I think I am ideally suited to assisting students who need a little extra help outside of their school. Whether that be to help them build knowledge, skills or confidence.
I have previously tutored people on an individual basis, and this is something I would look to do in the future. I find that individual tutoring makes it easier to connect to the student and help them develop.
My teaching style varies depending on the student, however I always aim to teach in an interactive manner. Generally, I find that an individually tailored approach is best, given that different students need help in different way. As such, on my first meeting with the student I discuss the ways they feel they learn best, find out what things they want to develop and improve and find out what things they feel they struggle with. Based on this, I can then develop lesson plans - whether this be to focus on essay practice, revision skills or consolidating knowledge using source papers and text books. Further, I like to use a variety of different methods and resources to help the student in whatever way they need. Mixing up the lessons and using different techniques helps keep things exciting and interesting.
I have a BA Hons in History and Political Science, an MA in Political Science and a Graduate Diploma in Law. I am going back to university to complete my Legal Practice Course and having previously tutored during my studies I am interested in finding some tutoring work. I really enjoy helping students learn and achieve their goals.
I have previously tutored two individuals in GCSE History. One of them received an A* and one an A - both achieved grades that they were happy with.
Guildford High School (Graduated 2012) - GCSE: 9 A*s (including History), 2 As; A2: A* (Politics), 2 As (including History);
University of Birmingham (Graduated 2015) - Joint Honours History and Political Science (BA): 2:1 (68)
University of New Mexico (Graduated 2017) - Political Science (MA): GPA: 3.73 (A)
BPP University (Graduated 2018) - Graduate Diploma in Law: Distinction (71)
BPP University (Starting September 2019) - Legal Practice Course
1. Tutor (July 2017-July 2018)
I tutored two students individually to help them each gain a GCSE in History. For one student, I assisted them on top of their normal school work, helping them develop confidence and skills in essay writing which led to the student gaining an A*. For the other student, I was their sole history teacher, home teaching them the syllabus, doing exam practice and in the end this student achieved an A.
2. Crocs Summer Fun, Hoe Bridge School, Woking (2013, 2014, 2015)
For two weeks during the respective summers of 2013, 2014, and 2015 I worked at Crocs Summer Fun at Hoe Bridge School, Woking. Alongside the other helpers, I was required to supervise children from eight to fourteen in activities including badminton, tennis, arts and craft and capture the flag. We were allowed to participate in the activities, with the main goal of ensuring the children had a fun and safe place to play with their friends during their summer holidays.
3. St Martin’s School, Dorking, Surrey – Volunteer (June-July 2012)
I wanted to give back to the community and decided to volunteer at this school because it had recently failed it’s Ofsted and therefore needed some extra support. I helped out in the nursery, offering assistance to the teachers where necessary. This involved a variety of tasks from changing the classroom displays to assisting the children with reading activities. It was especially interesting to observe the management style of the Head Teacher, and her techniques in dealing with tricky situations given the difficult nature of some of the students.
4. Feltonfleet School, Cobham, Surrey – Assistant Teacher (June 2010)
As part of work experience week at my school, I carried out a number of tasks at Feltonfleet School, including helping organise P.E. lessons, and during their creativity week, overseeing art, drama and music activities.
