About Ruben
I have been teaching students in a formal classroom setting for one year. I have proofread and edited papers and other academic assignments for colleagues, former classmates, and students for around seven years. I have edited websites for nonprofit organizations and been in charge of supervising content. I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies, a M.A. in the Social Sciences, a M.S. in Health Communication, and I am working on a PhD in history at Tulane University.

My teaching methodology is first and foremost to focus on the student and her/his needs. I realize that some students are visual learners, others are more text-driven, and others combine both approaches or manifest unique approaches of their own. As a tutor, my job is to act more as a facilitator than an instructor. I am committed to guiding students through the material but in the end, I want them to be confident with grasping a subject with or without my help. In other words, I try to guide my students to paths of self-sufficiency and confidence. By self-sufficiency, I do not mean that I do not expect my students to ever ask for help after my services are no longer needed; on the contrary, I would expect them to always ask for help, but to feel confident in their own abilities to move forward with a given subject.
