About Kara
My name is Nicole, and I am currently pursuing a degree in International Relations at Brigham Young University-Idaho. Throughout my studies, I have developed a strong passion for understanding global cultures and international relations. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have received professional training in teaching English Language Learners (ELLs), both in the United States and internationally. This experience has equipped me with the skills necessary to support students from diverse linguistic backgrounds effectively and to foster an inclusive learning environment.

My teaching style is centered on a scaffolding approach, where I provide a strong foundation of support to help students reach their full potential. I prioritize creating a safe, authoritative environment that keeps students’ affective filters open, ensuring they feel challenged and motivated without being overwhelmed by stress. I am patient with the silent period of language learning, giving students the time they need to gain confidence before becoming more vocal. While I value academic proficiency, I place a high importance on Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) so that students can immediately connect with the cultures and build meaningful friendships. By combining clear goals with flexibility, I strive to create an effective environment where every learner can successfully develop their English skills.
