About Jessica
I am a passionate Art & Design tutor with hands-on experience supporting learners of all ages and needs. I have worked as a SEN Teaching Assistant in Toronto, a specialist inclusion programme supporting students aged 6–14 with a wide range of learning needs and disabilities. This experience gave me a deep understanding of how to adapt my teaching style to suit each individual learner.
Alongside this, I have worked as a private Art tutor, successfully preparing students for entry into a university foundation programme in under a year. I am passionate about helping students find their creative voice, build confidence, and develop their skills at their own pace.
Whether you are looking to build foundational skills, develop a portfolio, or prepare for exams or further education, I offer a patient, encouraging, and tailored approach to every session.

I have previously taught students preparing their fine art or design portfolio for their undergraduate BA and Foundation courses, however I am able to adapt lessons and teach ages 5-19.
The typical length for a student preparing their portfolio is 2-3 hours. However for a younger student it would be 1-2 hours including breaks.
A fine art lesson begins with a slideshow of an art history movement that relates to the technical skills being taught for that lesson. For example, if I am teaching colour theory, the art period would be impressionism, with artist examples like Renoir. After I would make colour theory demonstrations related to one of the paintings taught, and create an activity for the student to follow. Another "homework" activity is given based on the lesson, and we begin the lesson next by critiquing last week's art. Depending on the age and goal of each student, up to 12 weeks of this lesson format is completed and then we proceed to portfolio (however all of the technical skills previously taught go into the sketchbook section of portfolio).
Portfolio classes allow students to take the technical skills and history they have learnt to begin choosing their own topics to research, or coming up with concepts for their own art pieces. If they have an idea for a completely new technical skill such as calligraphy or plaster casting, I am happy to teach them and artist along the way of their own creations.
Please note that students do have to buy their own art supplies however I can provide a list with supplies and online or in person shops to find them. I also being my supplies to each lesson to do demonstrations alongside the student.
