Understanding choreography starts with mastering its essential building blocks.

• The body: focuses on posture, gestures, and the dancer's physical expression.
• Movement: includes turns, jumps, kicks, rolls, and every transition between them.
• Spatial awareness: defines where dancers move on stage and how they fill the floor.
• Timing: connects movement to musicality, tempo, and rhythmic phrasing.
• Energy: gives each step its character, from sharp and powerful to soft and flowing.

Practising these principles with a tutor helps you progress far faster than learning alone.

A private choreography lesson in Nottingham costs approximately £25/h.

Several elements influence the price:

• Dance experience: the level of your dance experience, from absolute beginner to professional.
• The tutor's experience: tutors with stage, teaching, or competition experience typically charge higher rates.
• How often you book: longer sessions or weekly lessons tend to come with better rates.
• Lesson format: online sessions are often more affordable than in-person classes.

Most teachers offer a free trial lesson so you can test their style before committing.

To master choreography, dancers rely on consistent methods that build muscle memory.

• Study the moves: absorb the routine visually before attempting any physical practice.
• Learn section by section: divide the choreography into short sections and master each one separately.
• Drill with repetition: repeat each section many times before speeding it up to full tempo.
• Record yourself: filming your practice highlights mistakes you cannot feel in the moment.
• Add musicality: match every move to the beat and let the music shape your dynamics.
