I'm a mum that works in retail, I recently enrolled back into University. It's never too late. I teach English from as young as primary and secondary school, using the curriculum to stay accurate. I completed my English GCSEs in year 9 at just 13 years old, I then went on to study English at AS level for my remaining two years of high school.
My favoured teaching method is to watch videos and to condense all contextual notes into mind maps ;flashcards because then it is a lot less challenging to have to remember all of the content that is required, if you condense your notes it will be a lot easier over a long-term basis.

My methods would include, but not be restricted to, reading extracts and discussing the techniques used, exploring various genres, writing exercises and workshopping. Each lesson involves a discussion of homework tasks, including explanation of any problems encountered and praise. This is followed by timed activities and support for any areas where problems occurred. Children are encouraged to give reasons for their choice of answers, to increase their speed and improve accuracy.
