Take private lessons with a history tutor in Old Aberdeen

Historians rely on five core concepts: context, temporal change, cause and effect, complexity, and contingency.

• Context involves examining the circumstances surrounding an event to grasp its meaning.
• Change over time tracks how societies, ideas, or institutions evolved across decades or centuries.
• Causality analyses the chain of causes and effects that shaped outcomes.
• Complexity acknowledges that most events have multiple explanations rather than simple answers.
• Contingency shows how chance and timing shaped historical paths.

These concepts transform history from a list of facts into meaningful analysis.

Private history tutors in Old Aberdeen charge approximately £15/h per session.

Prices vary based on:

• The student's level (Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-Level, or university)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (degree level, teaching credentials, exam board expertise)
• Lesson length and frequency (single lessons or ongoing packages)
• Delivery method (online, in-person at home, or at a tutoring centre)

Many tutors offer discounts for block bookings, which can lower the hourly rate over time.

Evaluating a source involves probing authorship, context, audience, and potential bias.

Most tutors teach a clear framework for source evaluation:

• Origin: Who wrote or produced this source, and when was it created?
• Purpose: What did the author hope to achieve with this document?
• Content: What does the source actually say, and what does it leave out?
• Reliability: How close was the author to the events described?

Comparing several sources helps historians confirm or challenge claims.
