About James
I am an experienced tutor who has just arrived from Toronto where I was tutoring York and U of T and Ryerson students in 1st and 2nd year in Comp Sci and Mathematics, discrete math, calculus, linear algebra, computer architecture and design as well as the standard high school curriculum. References available.
My professional career is one of IT services including web design and programming, C, PHP PERL programming including a great deal of data ,mining starting 20 years back where I have a tank you in Jim Carroll's book The Canadian Internet Handbook in the 1996 edition I believe, additionally I polled various sources of data to populate my own database of properties for sale then got into things like polygons and cursors and Google mapping since we wanted to display places based on the neighborhood definition.
Academically, I started York Uinversity part-time studies in 1990, worked full time as technical manager of a small ISP and studied part-time. I took up a BA to have more electives, I chose the same computer courses as in the BSc degree along with all of my electives being higher mathematics, I graduated with distinction as I had over a 90% average and was pretty much top of my class. I count on the native intelligence of my students and I work very hard to establish clear communication that takes full advantage of this. I often have students who feel discouraged about their ability to learn. I tell them the story of the kid who knew no words learning a whole language and abstract concepts just by observing people and getting a little help from people who didn't know how to teach or even understand the technicalities of the language. They ask who the kid is that did such an amazing thing and I tell them it was them at age two to five.
I believe practically anyone can be taught just about anything if they are given understanding, patience and humour and things are explained properly. The task breaks down, start on concept and vocabulary, move into techniques and examples, then guiding the student's work. I had one student I taught from grade 5 to grade 12 and got him into OCAD University while we worked together on the entire academic curriculum. I have also tutored other IT professionals in programming, web development DB, System and Network administration.

Details
I generally charge around $20/hr. for all high school level subjects, $25/hr. for 1st year university students and $35 for 2nd year university courses, the added expense comes from the extensive preparation time I put in. I charge $25/hr. for all professional training.
