About Gregory
I hold a Master of Science in Mathematics and Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, giving me both deep subject matter expertise and a formal understanding of how people learn. My teaching career began in 1998 when I taught 10th grade mathematics in a classroom setting on Long Island, New York, where I developed a student-centered approach focused on building genuine confidence rather than simply drilling formulas. Following my classroom experience, I went on to tutor students privately on a one-on-one basis for all the years since then, consistently helping struggling students improve from failing grades to solid B's and A's.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in what educators call the Socratic method — rather than re-explaining the same concept louder, I first observe how each student naturally approaches a problem, then ask carefully chosen questions that guide them toward discovering the answer themselves. This approach respects the unique way each student thinks and builds real, lasting understanding. I also believe strongly in crediting what students get right rather than harshly penalizing small errors — a philosophy I borrowed from exceptional graduate school professors that I had, that my own students have consistently responded to with renewed motivation and confidence!
I am currently offering one-on-one online tutoring via Zoom for students up to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. My sessions are flexible, relaxed, and entirely adapted to each student's individual pace and learning style. Whether a student is falling behind, looking to solidify their foundation, or simply needs someone patient and encouraging in their corner, I bring over two decades of teaching experience and a genuine passion for helping young people discover that math is something they are absolutely capable of mastering! :)
