About Luis

Embarking on the journey to become a musician, I've carved a path marked by dedication, passion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. I am not only a musician by profession but also by heart, holding a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance. This achievement is a testament to my dedication to my craft, but more importantly, it signifies the depth of knowledge and expertise I bring to each lesson I teach.

My musical journey is unique in that it doesn't stem from a lineage of musicians or early specialized instruction. Instead, my story is one of self-driven ambition and an insatiable desire to learn. From a young age, I recognized that my passion for music was not just a fleeting interest but a calling. Without the advantage of familial guidance in music, I approached my education with a determination to absorb everything I could. I was, as they say, a sponge — eagerly soaking up instruction and seeking out mentors who could shape my burgeoning talent. This journey of self-improvement led me to pursue advanced studies, where I sought out teachers in college who could further hone my skills and unlock my potential.

As a multi-instrumentalist, my musical endeavors have not been confined to percussion alone. My versatility as a musician has allowed me to perform in various esteemed venues, showcasing my ability to adapt and excel in diverse musical settings. This breadth of experience has not only enriched my personal artistry but also broadened the scope of knowledge and insights I bring to my students.

Teaching at various institutions has allowed me to share my passion and expertise with students from different backgrounds and levels of experience. My approach to teaching is rooted in the belief that with dedication and the right guidance, anyone can achieve excellence in music. I strive to inspire confidence in my students, reassuring them of my professionalism and commitment to their growth as musicians.

My legitimacy as an educator and performer is built on a foundation of hard-earned accomplishments and a deep understanding of the musical landscape. My journey underscores the power of perseverance, the importance of seeking knowledge, and the value of embracing every opportunity for growth. As your tutor, I am dedicated to guiding you through your musical journey, ensuring that you have the support, instruction, and encouragement needed to reach your fullest potential.

As a tutor, my approach to sharing knowledge is built around the belief that music is accessible to anyone with the desire to learn, regardless of their starting point. My teaching method emphasizes the importance of foundational work, incorporating regular use of a metronome and targeted exercises to ensure consistent growth in technique and musicianship. I focus on developing a solid base from which students can explore their musical interests with confidence.

A typical lesson plan with me is structured yet flexible, designed to maximize the student's progress and enjoyment. We begin by reviewing any assigned lesson material from the previous session, ensuring that concepts are understood and integrated. This review phase is crucial for reinforcing learning and addressing any challenges early on. Following this, we dive into exercises tailored to the student's current level and goals. These exercises are selected to enhance technique, rhythm, and musical expression. Each lesson also includes the introduction of new material, such as pieces that align with the student's interests and developmental needs, providing fresh challenges and opportunities for growth.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my inclusive philosophy that anyone can play music. I firmly believe that being a prodigy or starting young are not prerequisites for musical achievement. What matters most is the willingness to improve and the commitment to try. This belief informs every aspect of my teaching, creating a supportive and motivating environment where students feel encouraged to explore their potential without the fear of judgment.

My lessons are designed to be inclusive and adaptable, catering to a wide range of students. For those interested in subjects other than percussion, I offer lessons up to the advanced high school level, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching musical education. For percussion students, my lessons cater to all levels, from beginner to beyond, reflecting my specialized expertise and passion for percussion. This inclusivity and breadth of instruction make my lessons accessible and beneficial to a diverse group of learners, each on their unique musical journey.
