About Scott
My name is Scott, and I am a final year mechanical and manufacturing engineering student in Trinity College Dublin. One of the primary things that I feel enables me to be an excellent tutor is the fact that I repeated the Leaving Cert in 2018, increasing my CAO points from 433 to 543, including taking my maths grade from a H4 to a high H2 (88%) and applied maths from a H5 to a H2 (85%) all in the space of 6 months (I didn't decide to actually begin repeating until the end of December 2017). Essentially, this enables me to connect with struggling students more efficiently and seamlessly - as I have experienced maths from 'both sides of the wall'. Having 3.5 years experience now teaching more than 15 students of all levels, I feel I am a very well-equipped grinds tutor who can inspire students to realize that maths can be 'cool and fun'. Don't hesitate to contact me for any more details!

In my own experience, the key to any student getting the most out of their grind is to feel relaxed and comfortable with their tutor. Being a very social person, I emphasize developing a friendly relationship with students during the grinds for their benefit. With regards to the maths, I put particular emphasis on having the student draw conclusions to problems themselves, rather than fully explain problems to them at the start. This serves two purposes: 1. It keeps the student engaged with the grind and helps to maintain their concentration. 2. It means the student will have a better chance of retaining the information they've just learned, since they arrived at the conclusion themselves. This also helps to sharpen the critically important skill of independent problem solving. Of course, the student may sometimes be genuinely stumped for an answer. In this case, I find that writing out a solution while comprehensively explaining my thought process in a manner that is simple to understand throughout, typically works very well. This in turn coaxes the student to develop a 'critical thinking' mindset which can be applied to a broad variety of questions throughout the curriculum. If you have any questions or would like to know more, please don't hesitate to enquire.

I can’t recommend Scott enough, he has been helping my daughter with maths for a while, he has tailored the lessons to her needs and explained topics in a clear manner. As well as that, he is very personable, diligent and very accommodating!
Thank you Scott!I have been doing online Maths grinds with Scott for the past year and he is incredibly helpful. Will always let you guide the lesson if you have specific questions and has the knowledge and patience to answer them all. I would highly recommend him to any Leaving Cert Maths students who need a bit of help.
