About Michael
Hello! My name is Michael and I'm here to answer any math questions you might have! I've worked as an academic math tutor for over 7 years, with tutoring/teaching experience ranging from Middle School up to college-level mathematics. I know math can seem scary, but making mistakes and being confused is completely normal during the learning process, so don't get discouraged if something isn't clicking right away! My goal is to make sure that your math confidence grows and that you have the resources necessary to take on any math course in your future.

For me, tutoring mathematics is less about teaching and more about being a guide. The goal of any tutor should be that the student develops the skills and knowledge necessary to not need the tutor anymore. I know that's contradictory, but I want to make sure that we build a strong foundation so you can be confident in your own mathematical ability! Making mistakes, working hours on just one problem, and being constantly confused is normal when learning anything, which is especially true for math. An unfortunate side effect of math education, however, is that many high school & college level math classes are lecture based, with little room for the student to make mistakes and participate in mathematical discovery for themselves. Being shown a concept and actually discovering it for yourself gives a new perspective on why math isn’t just memorizing formulas and definitions, but actually a field of intertwining concepts, complex structures, and highly detailed logic!
The secret really is that math is an active sport. Think of it like exercising for your brain, where the most effective way to practice is by actively working through examples and to never stop asking “Why?”. Doing so is how we solidify our understanding and remove confusion. To quickly and masterfully gain the knowledge needed to pass exams, complete homework, and progress through math content, I structure most of my lessons around active problem solving. This means we will be walking through your thought process, and I will be there to answer any questions you have and give you the tools necessary to confidently excel in math!
