About Gcina
Hello, my name is Gcina and I am a university student at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) with a passion for mathematics and helping students grow in confidence academically. One thing that makes my teaching approach different is that I personally understand what it feels like to struggle with mathematics. Because of this, I know how frustrating and intimidating the subject can become when concepts are not explained properly. My own journey taught me that improvement in math comes from understanding concepts clearly, practicing consistently and building confidence step by step.
I enjoy helping students understand mathematics in a way that is simple, logical and less overwhelming. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students pass, but to help them genuinely understand concepts and develop strong problem-solving skills that will benefit them academically and beyond the classroom.
I focus on creating a supportive but disciplined learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improving through practice. I work with high school students at different ability levels, whether they need help catching up, improving marks or preparing for tests and exams. My lessons are structured according to each student’s needs and include clear explanations, worked examples and exam-style practice questions.
I am committed to being professional, patient and reliable, and I aim to help students become more confident and independent in their mathematical abilities.

I am a dedicated university student with a passion for mathematics and helping students build confidence in their abilities. My teaching approach focuses on understanding concepts instead of memorizing methods, allowing students to solve problems independently and perform better in tests and exams.
I offer lessons in English where needed, and I adapt my teaching style to suit each student’s pace and learning preferences. A typical lesson includes explaining concepts clearly, working through examples together, identifying weak areas and practicing exam-style questions to strengthen understanding.
My lessons are aimed at high school students who want to improve their marks, strengthen their mathematical foundation or prepare for assignments, tests and examinations. I strive to create a focused but comfortable learning environment where students feel confident asking questions and challenging themselves academically.
