About Tom

I am a qualified teacher, physics tutor and maths tutor of over 16 years' experience based in Wimbledon SW19. After studying Physics at Imperial College, I taught maths and physics at a private tutorial college in Kensington before gaining a PGCE Teaching Certificate from the Institute of Education (University of London). I taught physics at Tiffin Boys grammar school in Kingston for four years as well as tutoring physics and maths. I am fully DBS checked (formerly CRB). I am a full-time tutor with availability during weekdays as well as evenings and weekends. I offer online tutoring where travel is not practical. I have helped many students to gain top grades at A-Level (AS/A2), International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE and GCSE, physics and maths, all major boards (Edexcel, OCR, AQA, WJEC) and I have tutored many younger students to pass entrance exams for independent and grammar schools. ***I am now offering Further Maths A Level tuition for all major exam boards*** My students have gained entrance to top schools including Eton (King's scholarship), Westminster, Winchester, Whitgift, Trinity and King's College School. I also specialise in scholarship papers and have helped students gain scholarships, including the notoriously challenging King's Scholarship for Eton College and the Westminster Challenge. In addition, I have prepared numerous students for the 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance papers used by many grammar and independent schools: non-verbal reasoning as well as physics/science and maths. I also have experience working with younger primary school pupils, both in preparation for prep school exams and boosting general maths/reasoning skills. Levels covered include: A-Level including Further Maths (AS, A2: Edexcel, OCR, AQA, WJEC) GCSE/IGCSE (Edexcel, OCR, AQA, WJEC) Common Entrance (13+ and 11+) Entrance and scholarship exams (Eton College/King's scholarship, Westminster/Westminster Challenge, Winchester, Whitgift, Trinity, KCS, Hampton, Tiffin) Primary school

I offer one-to-one tuition which is tailored to students' individual learning needs. I can teach topics from scratch using a range of resources which I can supply to help students' understanding. I can provide example questions or use students' own, working through questions together to ensure that they understand the processes involved in solving maths and science problems. My aim is to help students both gain a thorough understanding of the topics involved and feel fully confident in applying those topics to even complicated problems. I also teach students good exam and revision technique to ensure that their revision is efficient and they avoid losing marks in their exams. I can help with preparation for school interviews or university entrance. I also teach students in small groups, where two or more students want tuition together. When teaching online, I use virtual whiteboards and other tech to recreate a classroom experience. I also allow students to contact me at any time in between lessons if they require help with homework or revision questions.
