About Poppy
I am an outgoing, committed second-year medical student and IB Mathematics Analysis and Approaches SL graduate who achieved a 7. I genuinely loved the learning process, and am passionate about helping other students achieve similar success.
I take a highly individualized approach to tutoring, focusing on understanding how each student learns best. I am motivated by seeing students improve, and I am committed to going above and beyond to find methods, explanations, and strategies that work for them. I strongly believe that every student is capable of achieving more than they initially think, and I aim to support and motivate them to reach that potential.
I have experience tutoring a wide range of students, from primary level through to senior secondary, in various forms of mathematics; from general subject improvement and extension work, to selective entry and scholarship exams. This has strengthened my ability to develop clear communication, structured thinking, and strong analytical skills.
I aim to create a supportive, structured environment where students feel confident, challenged, and equipped to express their ideas clearly and perform at their best.

My lessons focus on both developing strong problem-solving skills and refining exam technique, so you can consistently approach questions with confidence, accuracy, and clear mathematical reasoning.
In lessons, we cover a range of mathematical skills:
- Building strong algebraic and problem-solving foundations
Strengthening mathematical reasoning and multi-step thinking skills
- Developing confidence with core topics such as algebra, functions, geometry, statistics, and calculus
- Learning effective strategies for approaching unfamiliar and higher-difficulty questions
- Improving working-out clarity, accuracy, and exam technique
- Practicing with IB-style, selective-entry, scholarship, and past paper questions (depending on your goals)
- Ongoing feedback to refine understanding and track improvement
How I teach
I take a highly individualized approach, adapting each lesson to how you learn best. I use a combination of guided practice, worked examples, targeted feedback, and discussion-based learning to help you develop both confidence and independence.
I aim to teach you to understand the concept underlying the question, so you can confidently approach anything similar and master it.
My experience
I achieved a 7 in IB Mathematics AA SL and understand both the analytical demands of the subject and the importance of strong foundational understanding. Having completed the IB recently, I can provide up-to-date insight into exam expectations, question styles, and effective study strategies. Before beginning the IB in year 11, I was consistently an A-level maths student in the QCE curriculum, (Queensland vers of VCE).
Alongside this, I have experience working with students across a range of levels, including tutoring primary and secondary students in maths and science, and supporting advanced students preparing for scholarship and selective-entry examinations. This has strengthened my ability to teach clear reasoning, structured problem solving, and exam confidence.
