About Sam
I have a Master’s degree in Physics and about 8 years of tutoring experience overall, including roughly 6 years working with middle-school students and additional experience tutoring college-level math and physics.
Much of my work has been with students who were struggling, had fallen behind, or had started losing confidence in their ability to succeed academically. I’ve helped students make substantial improvements in their grades, including students who moved from failing or near-failing scores into the B range and above.
I’m patient, attentive, and especially interested in understanding how an individual student thinks. I take tutoring seriously, but I also want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and working through material without feeling judged or rushed.

I work mainly with middle-school students in grades 6–8 who have reached the point where math feels genuinely frustrating. Sometimes they’ve been staring at the same kind of problem for days, falling further behind while the class keeps moving, and eventually start thinking, “I’m just bad at math.” Often, the real problem is not ability at all—it’s that something important stopped making sense earlier, and everything afterward was built on top of that gap.
I spend a significant part of my tutoring time diagnosing exactly where that breakdown occurred. Before trying to push a student through more problems, I want to understand what they know, what they think they know, and where their reasoning begins to go off track. Once I understand that, I can shape the tutoring around what that particular student actually needs.
This way, I’ve helped students move from grades in the 40s and 50s into the 80s and above over the course of a term or school year. My goal is not simply to get through the next test, but to help the student reach the point where the material finally makes sense.
