About Maia
Throughout my learning career I have always held school as a top priority. I have been in advanced Math and English classes throughout all of middle and high school and enjoyed them greatly. I have maintained my 4.0 GPA with straight A's throughout my whole life. I took all honors and AP classes available to me, and passed all the AP exams. Accomplishments: -Member of the National Honor Society -High Honor Roll every year -2 varsity sports and earned varsity letters all 4 years -Captain of the Swim Team for two years -Wide range of volunteering and work experiences

My approach to learning is centered on a fluent understanding of the "why" behind subjects we learn. I seek to help people learn a topic to its core, not just the steps to get an answer. With this approach, students can solve more complex problems and create strong foundations in subjects. I believe that we learn more from failure than we do success. I want to challenge students to the point that they get things wrong so that they know failure is a crucial step in the learning process. My goal is not to help students get every question right through plugging and chugging numbers or words into formulas, it's to give them tools and strategies to think about each problem in a deeper way. It makes me sad that so many students have bad judgments about school and learning. I believe that every kid has the potential to enjoy school, it's just about making the topic engaging and positive. In my lessons we will always keep the atmosphere positive and I'll seek to inspire them to work hard in school and do their tasks to the best of their ability. My lessons will always be centered around the student's individual need. We will always start by looking at what isn't being understood properly to get to the root of the problem. I am very passionate about making note sheets and note cards so that the student has something to look back at and review. My lessons are for any student up through high school who wants to spend a little extra time working on and understanding a subject. I specialize in English, mathematics, biology, and history.
