About James
I am an ESL educator with 15+ years of experience teaching English speaking and writing to students of all ages, primarily elementary age. My lessons are designed for learners who want to move beyond textbook English and communicate naturally, clearly, and confidently.
I specialize in highly personalized instruction and work with a limited number of students so that lessons can adapt closely to individual learning styles, strengths, and goals. My lessons focus on how English is actually spoken and written in real life. This includes natural speech patterns such as reductions and elision (“gonna,” “wanna,” “gotta”), conversational rhythm, idioms, slang, and expressions rarely taught in formal materials.
To support this, I design custom interactive games and activities tailored to each student. These tools reinforce speaking fluency, writing clarity, vocabulary usage, and accuracy through active use rather than memorization. Lessons evolve as students improve, allowing us to focus precisely on what will produce the most progress.
For students who enjoy deeper analysis, I also incorporate etymology, word roots, prefixes, and suffixes to strengthen vocabulary and reveal shared meaning across words.

Lesson formats and rates:
- One-on-one lessons: $60 per hour
- Two-student lessons: $110 per hour total ($55 per student)
- Three-student lessons: $135 won per hour total ($45 per student)
Small group lessons are limited to students with similar levels and goals; friends and siblings often work well when closely matched.
