About Holden
I’m a math tutor who focuses on helping students actually understand what they’re doing and not just memorize steps. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Washington State University and over 10 years of professional experience across different industries. This helps me connect math to real-world situations and make it feel more practical and less abstract.
My teaching style is flexible and student-focused. I usually start by figuring out what’s been challenging, then we work through it together step-by-step. I’ll explain concepts in different ways until something clicks, and I keep sessions interactive by having students solve problems on their own while I guide them. I adjust my approach depending on the student, whether they need a more direct push or a slower, more supportive pace.
What makes me different is that I don’t rely on just one way to solve a problem. If something isn’t making sense, I’ll approach it from a completely different angle. I also use mistakes to understand how a student is thinking, so I can explain things more clearly. Over time, my students not only improve in math but also gain confidence and learn how to think through problems on their own.

My approach to tutoring math is this: if one explanation doesn’t click, I find another that does. I act as both an explainer and a guide, breaking concepts down using multiple frameworks and real-world examples so students can truly understand, not just memorize, how to solve problems.
A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in to identify what the student is struggling with. From there, we focus directly on those challenges. I’ll walk through a problem step-by-step, then have the student solve similar problems independently while I guide them. I keep sessions highly interactive, with the student doing most of the thinking and problem-solving to ensure real understanding.
I adapt to each student’s pace and learning style, whether they need a more direct approach or a slower, more supportive one. When mistakes happen, I use them to pinpoint exactly where the confusion is, then address it with a clearer, more effective explanation.
What sets me apart is flexibility. Many tutors rely on one method, but I come prepared with multiple ways to approach the same problem. This helps students find the method that actually makes sense to them.
Students I work with quickly gain a stronger understanding of how math connects to the real world. They build the confidence and critical thinking skills needed to tackle unfamiliar problems independently.
