About Erik

Online only · Moscow time (UTC+3) · lessons in English or Russian

My name is Erik Markovskii — percussionist, composer and teacher. I've been teaching for more than 15 years and have worked with over 1,000 students: adults and children, complete beginners and working musicians. I'm an educator by training, with a degree in psychology and education from Kazan Federal University.

Handpan is one of my main instruments. I also teach RAV Vast, tongue drum and glucophone with the same approach.

I've been on stage for 18 years. My theatre music was nominated for the Golden Mask, Russia's national theatre award (Best Composer), and I've performed at international festivals and on Indian national television. I'm an official endorser of Chill Radar handpans.

About the lesson

Who it's for:
• Complete beginners — no music background needed
• Self-taught players who feel stuck
• Players who want to improvise and write their own pieces
• Children from 7

What we work on:
• Sound: clean tones, dynamics and control — the basics that make a handpan sing
• Rhythm and groove in 4/4, 6/8 and odd meters
• Melody and improvisation on your own scale
• A clear practice plan between lessons: send me recordings and get feedback

Format: individual 60-minute lessons on Zoom. If you don't have a handpan yet, I'll help you choose one.

Free first lesson — 30 minutes. We'll play together, and you'll leave with exercises you can practise on your own.

Excellent! Impressive player, but does not teach bodhran in the traditional sense. I wouldn't claim to teach the instrument were I him.
