About Ava
English has always been my favourite subject because I love the way literature allows us to explore different perspectives, ideas and cultures. I hope to continue studying English Literature at university, and I am currently preparing applications to some of the UK's leading universities.
Alongside my studies, I have spent many years developing my own love of reading and writing through essay competitions, creative writing and literary enrichment activities. These experiences have strengthened not only my academic understanding but also my enthusiasm for helping others grow in confidence with English. For example, I help my school every week with year 8 guided reading, assisting young and struggling readers to gain confidence.
I understand that every student learns differently. Some need support building confidence with reading, while others want to improve their creative writing or achieve the highest grades in English examinations. Whatever their starting point, my aim is to make lessons encouraging, engaging and tailored to each student's individual needs.
Although I am a young tutor, I see this as a strength. Having completed GCSE English recently, I understand the current specifications, the expectations of examiners and the challenges students face. I have helped friends and younger students improve their English skills, and I enjoy explaining ideas clearly and patiently.
Most importantly, I want every student to leave each lesson feeling more confident than when they arrived. Whether we're exploring a novel, analysing poetry, practising exam questions or simply discovering the joy of reading together, my goal is to help students develop both strong academic skills and a lifelong appreciation for English.

Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to their individual needs, confidence and goals. Whether your child is just beginning to develop their reading skills or preparing for GCSE examinations, I aim to create a relaxed, encouraging environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves.
For younger primary school students, lessons can focus on guided reading, improving fluency, spelling, comprehension and building a genuine enjoyment of books. We might read together, discuss characters and themes, or work through engaging literacy activities designed to strengthen vocabulary and confidence.
For KS3 students, I help develop analytical thinking, essay writing and creative writing skills while reinforcing key literacy foundations. If your child enjoys writing, we can also explore how authors create distinctive styles and work on developing their own voice as a writer.
For GCSE English Language students, I offer support with both examination technique and writing skills, helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for to achieve the highest marks. We can work through practice questions, improve analytical responses and develop clear, sophisticated writing.
For GCSE English Literature, I currently offer tuition for the texts I studied myself: Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Animal Farm and the Power and Conflict poetry anthology. Lessons focus on close textual analysis, essay structure, revision strategies and building the confidence needed to succeed in examinations.
Lessons are typically one hour long, although shorter sessions can be arranged for younger children if preferred.
I am entering Year 13 and study A Level English Literature, where I achieved an A* in my Year 12 examinations and am currently predicted an A*. At GCSE, I achieved Grade 9 in both English Language and English Literature, alongside an overall profile of mainly Grades 8 and 9. I was also recognised as one of the highest-achieving students in my English class.
Alongside my academic achievements, I have a genuine passion for literature and literacy. I hope to study English Literature at university, and I love helping young people discover confidence in reading, writing and analysing texts. I have supported family friends and fellow students with their English studies, helping them improve both their understanding and their exam performance. My aim is not only to help students achieve excellent results, but also to help them enjoy English and develop skills that will stay with them long after the exam is over.
