About Cheryl
When I started my Ph.D., I became a teaching assistant and held that position for 3 years, starting in person and moving through COVID to online lectures and labs. I found that many of my students lacked the skills in mathematics to complete their general chemistry lessons. This is what inspired me to pursue my full teaching certification. I would like to help students achieve high marks in math and science, without feeling like they are behind in their current courses.
My degrees are focused in Environmental Science and Chemistry, and this includes many semesters in mathematics ranging from Geometry to Calculus. I also have experience in geography, geology, and physics courses at the university levels. Even though my experience is at the university level, I would love to tutor students in high school to improve their science and math skills and those students who are interested in attending university in the future.

Please reach out via my email to set up a session. (concealed information) I do not charge for the first session, but Superprof will force you to pay $69 for a subscription if you go through them before contacting me.
My approach to teaching is very much student-driven. My position as a tutor is to help the student as a guide. I will be there to answer questions and work through problems or questions that the student has. I can check homework if that is all that is requested.
Lessons are as long as the student needs. Typical length is 1-2 hours depending on the subject and the amount of assistance the student feels they need. I will offer shorter sessions if a homework check is all that is requested.
Sessions can be in the student's home, online, or in a neutral location. Fully vaccinated for COVID.
I have 3 years of experience as a teaching assistant in General Chemistry, Algebra, and Calculus at the university level. This includes with assisting in lectures, holding review sessions, and personal and group tutoring.
My assistance is for those students in grades 5-12 (ages 10-18) and at the undergraduate university levels.

Perfect! Cheryl is incredibly knowledgeable and brings a world of expertise to her tutoring.
She is a very patient and can adapt her teaching style to meet where you are at in your learning journey. Couldn’t recommend her highly enough!- Callen is very eager to learn. He has a good basic understanding of the different concepts of chemistry. We spent most of the session working on the underlying math. I see much improvement from Callen in future sessions.Cheryl's response :
Perfect! My son has really been struggling with maths for some time. After one tutorial with Cheryl, he is more confident and positive already. I’m very impressed and very grateful
- Peter and I worked on finding the equation of linear functions. Peter was engaged the entire time and was eager to learn the steps for each stage of finding the equation. We started by finding the gradient and used problems from his textbook as examples. After a few examples, Peter found the gradient using the formula quickly and efficiently. I gave him 3 steps to find the equation of the line and this seemed to work out well for him. We ended the session by working on finding the equations for parallel and perpendicular lines . We also worked on converting from standard to gradient-intercept form of the equations.Cheryl's response :
Peter asked a lot of great questions, took excellent notes, and worked hard. I am excited to work with him next time.
