About Raheema
I have been offering lessons on and off for eight years, and throughout that time have been studying myself. I've always felt the best way to learn is by practicing and helping others. I have taught students from as young as 14 to early/mid 20s. The focus has always been different as with older students the type of support they require can be specifically for their thesis or developing a greater understanding of critical theory. Whereas, with younger students it's been more structural tutoring with essay writing, understanding what makes a good essay, and illustrating awareness of the given topic.
As explained above, I have previously worked on two books, and throughout that period I was lucky enough to teach English in a few schools out in Nepal. This was an extremely rewarding experience, and one I look back on now as equipping me with the skills to go forward and teach.
Most of my students have gone on to university studying a range of subjects including History, English, and Law. Others were able to achieve a GCSE A-C in English allowing to go on straight to work. Literature has always been a passion of mine, and I hope that anyone I teach is able to take a bit of that going forward in their life in whatever path that may be.

Hi there,
I'm am MA student in Postcolonial Studies at SOAS, University of London. I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature, and my thesis was focused on the psychological effects of trauma after 9/11 which was awarded a first class mark. I have been studying Literature itself for eight veryears. Throughout that time I have helped students in schools preparing for their GCSEs as a voluntary tutor. As well as private tuition offering support with proofreading essays, structure, and specific tutoring on texts/exam prep across GCSE, A Level, and Undergraduate.
My approach is relaxed, and is aimed at gaining an understanding of what you feel you need help with the most. I then tend to tailor my approach to those specific areas in short chunks of time to make it fun and enjoyable. Often it can become difficult to focus when studying long texts so I always aim to find the best way for my students to engage and get the most out of it.
My particular areas of interest are South East Asian and Caribbean literature. I have worked on two books in the past that have specifically focused on the role of women in South East Asia - so can certainly recommend reading and support in regards to Gender, and Postcolonial theory as a whole.
