About Tom
Hi, I’m a Mechanical Engineering student at UCL and a former student of Wilson’s School, ranked 2nd among UK state schools in 2026 for A level and GCSE results.
I achieved 11 Grade 9s at GCSE, with an average of 95%+ across seven subjects, including Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and English Literature. At A-Level, I achieved A*A*A in Maths, Physics and Further Maths respectively.
I previously provided 1-to-1 GCSE Maths tutoring to KS4 students at Wilson’s, which I enjoyed because it was rewarding to see students become more confident as they understood topics that they had initially found difficult.
I want to continue tutoring because I enjoy helping students understand things that may initially seem complicated or unfamiliar. I also remember what it was like preparing for these exams myself, so I can share approaches to revision and exam questions that I found useful.
My aim is to create a friendly, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I want lessons to be challenging when appropriate, but also to leave students feeling that they understand the material better and are more confident tackling it independently.

Lessons are structured around the individual student, with a clear objective for each session and progress built over time.
11+ lessons:
For 11+, I offer support in Maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. Lessons are adapted to the student’s current level and, where relevant, the requirements of their target schools.
We’ll begin by identifying areas that need attention, then work through examples together before moving to independent questions. I’ll review the student’s working and mistakes carefully, helping them understand not only the correct answer but how to approach similar problems independently.
As the student becomes more confident, I can introduce more challenging questions and timed practice to develop accuracy, problem-solving and exam technique.
GCSE & A-Level lessons:
For GCSEs, I offer support in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, whilst for A-Levels I can cover Maths and Physics. Lessons will focus on strengthening understanding of particular topics, addressing gaps in knowledge or preparing for upcoming exams.
I’ll explain the underlying concepts clearly and work through examples step by step before moving onto questions. Students will then attempt questions independently, allowing me to identify misconceptions and areas that need further practice.
As exams approach, lessons can become more focused on exam-style and past-paper questions. We can work on applying knowledge to unfamiliar problems, interpreting questions carefully and developing a reliable approach to securing marks.
Having completed my A levels and GCSEs recently, I have up-to-date knowledge of current exams and can share the revision techniques and exam approaches that I used to succeed in my own studies
Throughout lessons, I aim to create a friendly and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, working through mistakes and tackling problems they initially find difficult. I want students to develop not just stronger subject knowledge, but also the confidence to approach questions independently.
I aim for each lesson to be focused and purposeful: explaining what the student needs to understand, giving them the opportunity to apply it, and using their mistakes to decide what we work on next. Where appropriate, I’ll set a small amount of targeted practice between lessons so that progress continues outside the session.

Tom was a great tutor for my son during his GCSE Maths preparation. He was reliable, patient and explained things clearly without making the lessons feel overwhelming. My son became much more confident in Maths and always looked forward to his lessons. I’d happily recommend Tom.
Tom tutored my son for GCSE Maths and we were really happy with the support he gave him. He was patient and friendly, and explained things in a way that was easy to understand. He was also good at spotting where my son was struggling and taking the time to go over those areas properly.
Over the time Tom tutored him, my son became much more confident with Maths and was more comfortable tackling questions he would previously have found difficult. Tom was reliable, well prepared and always encouraging. I would definitely recommend him to other parents looking for a GCSE Maths tutor.View more recommendations
