I believe the best way to embed learning is to look at each child as an individual, with specific needs. I also believe in the power of creativity; bringing lessons to life in a fun and exciting way to enable the key information to 'stick'. This is what I will do to help your child. The structure of my lessons will be tailored to the needs and ability of the child, patience and insight is key to this and I will make sure your child challenged when ready.
I obtained B's across all my A-Level subjects (English Literature, History and Psychology), I have a Psychology degree, awarded from the University of Liverpool and then studied to be a teacher at Liverpool Hope University. I have been teaching children full-time since last October, taking full ownership of lesson preparation and assessment. I have experience teaching in both KS1 and KS2 and experience preparing children for their SATS.
I have a lot of experience teaching Literacy, teaching reading comprehension, creative writing, grammar and phonics. I also have experience teaching my Year 6 children SPAG (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar), which is part of their statutory assessment (SATS). Funnily enough, I also love essays, proofreading them, planning for them and writing them. I have a lot of experience doing this throughout my personal educational career, during my Psychology Degree and my Postgraduate Degree in Teaching. No matter what your struggles are, I am sure I can tailor my experience and expertise to meet your needs.
I am an outgoing, creative and enthusiastic individual with a passion for teaching primary-age children. One of my main strengths is that I am highly curious, constantly wondering about what else could be done in any situation, and how to do it. Sharing an educational journey with a class of learners is something that makes me feel motivated and inspired.
I was delighted to gain the overall grade of good in my first block placement during my teacher training at Liverpool Hope University and graduated in July with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with a specialism in Special Educational Needs (SEN). I have thoroughly enjoyed all my teaching practices, with two main placements in KS2 (Y6), and more recently KS1 (Y2). I have found that my main teaching philosophy is to promote a love of learning through intellectual curiosity.
I was fortunate enough to specialise in SEN during my teacher training. This specialism has given me a depth of knowledge about the different types of needs children may have, along with approaches in order to manage these needs. Having a clear understanding of all pupils’ needs and factors that can inhibit their ability to learn is something that I feel exceptionally passionate about.
I have an in-depth knowledge of both English Literature and English Language, excelling teaching Literacy in the classroom when training to be a teacher. I have also completed additional English-specific courses to increase my knowledge. I am TEFL certified, which means I am able to teach English as an Additional Language, this means I understand how we speak, the grammatical constructs we use to devise our sentences and activities to use when teaching this knowledge to learners. I studied English Literature at A-Level, where I studied books and texts in-depth, writing essays that were cohesive, flowed well and enabled a well-formatted argument to be constructed. More recently, I have completed further training from Oxford University Press about how to teach grammar in the classroom.
Along with my additional training, I love to read and have an understanding of a number of children's and adults books.

Perfect! Rachel is an excellent teacher. She is very friendly, dedicated and knowledgeable. We contacted Rachel to help my daughter with creative writing and comprehension, 2 weeks before the entrance exam. She taught my daughter in a very well organised and structured way, which improved her skills a lot in such a short period of time. Thanks Rachel, for teaching her so well.
Rachel was an amazing tutor for me, while I was struggling with English literature she always seemed to be able to understand my issues and try to give multiple helpful solutions. Would definatley recommend to a friend.
